During this time clocks are set one hour ahead of standard time. The Pacific Time Zone operates on Daylight Saving Time (DST) from mid-March to early November each year. It also includes parts of Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon and Utah as well as some of the Hawaiian islands. The Pacific Time Zone encompasses most of the western coast of North America, from British Columbia and Washington in Canada to California and Baja California in Mexico. The winters are generally mild with occasional snowfall but it can get quite cold at higher elevations due to its high elevation. The state has a diverse climate with hot summers in lower elevations and colder temperatures at higher elevations. Northern Nevada consists mainly of high desert plains while southern Nevada consists mainly of rugged mountain ranges including the Sierra Nevadas which stretch from California into Utah. Northern Nevada includes Reno and Lake Tahoe while southern Nevada includes Las Vegas and Boulder City. Nevada is geographically divided into two distinct regions northern Nevada and southern Nevada. Spanning an area of 110,567 square miles (286,382 km2), Nevada is the seventh-largest state in terms of area and has a population of nearly 3 million people as of 2019. The capital of Nevada is Carson City and its largest city is Las Vegas. Nevada is located in the western United States, bordered by Oregon to the northwest, Idaho to the northeast, California to the west, Arizona to the southeast, and Utah to the east. ![]()
